Pedestrian Killed in Fairfax, Virginia

On April 11, 2007, a 52-year-old man died after being struck by an SUV or Jeep. The man was hit at about 10:30 p.m. as he was crossing the southbound lanes of Richmond Highway at the intersection of Fairhaven Avenue in the Huntington area. Police said the man may not have been in a crosswalk. A motorist had the green light but stopped to allow the man to cross, police said. The light had changed to yellow when a vehicle in the center southbound lane hit the man. The vehicle slowed down but then fled south on Richmond Highway, police said. The man was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he died. He was the fifth pedestrian killed in Fairfax County this year. Police continue to search for the vehicle. They said it should have extensive front-end damage and at least one missing headlight.
