Six year old child killed in Washington D.C. by hit and run driver

A child has died after being struck by a vehicle in northeast D.C., authorities said. Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, police went to the intersection of Sixth Street and Orleans Place and found a 6-year-old girl unconscious. Police said a vehicle struck the girl and fled the scene. The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. She later died. Police said the girl was crossing Sixth Street to go to an after-school program when she was struck by a green SUV, traveling north on Sixth. The vehicle may have had Maryland license plates and tinted windows.
