Man Arrested in Capitol Heights Speeding Car Crash That Killed Two

The man responsible for causing a fatal vehicle crash in Prince George’s County that tragically killed two young women was arrested shortly after the accident occurred.

On December 7, police say that Ronald Jerome Hayes Jr., 18, was driving at excessive speeds on Shady Glen Drive, in Capitol Heights around 10:45 p.m., when the vehicle he was in collided with a van at the intersection with Central Avenue.

Two females inside the van, 23-year-old Brittney Everett and 21-year-old Brittney Queen, were killed in the collision and pronounced dead on the scene. The van also carried four other passengers, including two children. According to police, the surviving passengers were injured in the crash as well, but were listed in stable condition a few days later.

Hayes sustained minor injuries in the accident, and his passenger was injured as well.

Early reports and information provided stated that, before the crash occurred, police responded to a call concerning shots being fired on the 7000 block of Walker Mill Road. Upon arrival, police attempted to pull over a car that was leaving the scene. However, the driver, Hayes, drove away in a car that had apparently been stolen. Police began to pursue Hayes, who sped away at a high rate of speed.

Eventually, Hayes was able to pull away from police, where he then turned off his headlights. Just after this occurred, Hayes crashed into the victims’ van, according to police statements. Hayes was injured in the crash, but fled the scene on foot. Patrol officers found him shortly after the crash hiding.

Hayes has been charged on counts of vehicular manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, theft and other traffic charges.

Our family at Lewis & Tompkins would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends grieving the losses of Brittney Everett and Brittney Queen- two lives cut short too soon by another man’s negligent choices.
